Looking for a stunning watch away for the norm?look no further than a watch from Mr Jones
A skull appears on this watch every time the hour and minute hand align. The remainder of the time the image is an apparently disordered mix of colours and shapes. As with several of our watches, this watch is a link to the tradition of the memento mori – an object designed to remind us that life is brief and we should seize it while we are here.
The skull is drawn from the Hans Holbein painting The Ambassadors. On the painting the skull appears distorted and elongated. When the painting is viewed from an acute angle the image resolves into the correct perspective. The effect is startling, with the skull appearing to float above the surface of the painting. This watch is intended as a homage to Holbein – the sudden appearance of the skull on the watch has the same sense of jolting, surprise.
